ALIPURDUAR FACTS
Alipurduar is the newly created District of West Bengal. Erstwhile district of Jalpaiguri was bifurcated to create Alipurduar district. It became the 20th district of West Bengal on 25th June, 2014. The district headquarters at Alipurduar which is situated on the eastern bank of the Kaljani River on the foot hills of the Himalayas. The town is the gateway to Bhutan and North Eastern States of India. The District is located at the Dooars region renowned for its forest, wildlife, timber, tea and scenic beauty.The district is located at the extreme North-East of West Bengal bordering the state of Assam.

The Rajbanshi are a cultivating and landowning community. They are divided into two subgroups. Land is their main source of income with a few being dependent on fishing or working in government services. They are Hindu who worship Narayan and Lakshimi (home deities). They have rich folk songs and tales within their people with the primary language spoken being Bangla.
2. Shaikh (116,000)

The Shaikh are descendants of Arabs or Hindu converts to Islam. There are Sunni and Shia Shaikhs, but most follow the Sunni way. The Shaikhs hold a variety of jobs. This people group is only found in India with the largest population being in West Bengal.

As the writer caste of West Bengal, there is a lot of controversy behind their backstory. The Kayastha are distributed across all the different districts of West Bengal. They speak Bangla and use the Bangla script. Kayastha believe their status is next to the Brahmans, and are superior to others. They are Hindu who worship the main deities of: Laxmi, Narayan, and Shiva. Many people in this group are businessmen, scholars, teachers, doctors, and political leaders.
