NADIA FACTS
Nadia lies in the Bengal Delta surrounded by the Ganges and its tributaries. It was a British district and officially became an Indian district on February 23, 1948. Nadia is known for its work in terracotta and tant loom products. It promotes traditional baul songs, string puppets, and painting on clay or paper.

The Shaikh are descendants of Arabs or Hindu converts to Islam. There are Sunni and Shia Shaikhs, but most follow the Sunni way. The Shaikhs hold a variety of jobs. This people group is only found in India with the largest population being in West Bengal.

The Namassej are outcasts from a mythical clan, they belong to one of the lowest castes in India. They are economically poor and many live as refugees. The Namassej are mainly part of a monist sect of Hinduism. Only around 0.43% are Christian.

The Jogi people are separated into many subgroups. They are occupational and are not arranged in any sort of hierarchy. Jogi's live all throughout West Bengal. They are engaged in a variety of different occupations- some work in medicine shops, some are schoolteachers, some grocers, shopkeepers, weavers and tailors. The Jogi people practice Hinduism. Durga Puja and Holi are their major festivals.
