The Jhargram royal family is descended from the Indian state Rajastan. The area is known for its forest, temples, and palaces. The 1930s and 1940s saw advancement and growth in the region. The main economy is business and farming. On April 4, 2017, Jhargram split off from Paschim Medinipur to become its own district.
